“Only a few lingerie brands have a real history and can claim a true expertise.”

The company history goes back to 1876, when the company founder, Mr. Gamichon, created the first stretchable knits in his Romilly factory in Aube, France. At the time when spandex has not yet gained any recognition as a great material for lingerie production, Mr. Gamichon should be given creadit for his original technical innovations that made a tremendous improvements in the fabrics’ elasticity making them more suitable for using in women’s lingerie. Mr.Gamichon shortly invited his nephew to join him in establishing and devloping family business. Mr Gamichom’s nephew was first represetative of the Kretz family that manages Chantelle company, a family business that became a world known lingerie brand associated with French high end luxurious lingerie of superb quality, unique designs and exceptional beauty.

It not not until the 1902, that the company finally started production of its own corsets and introduced to the lingerie market its signature designs made using elastic fabric. The company name of Chantelle, as we know it today, was officially introduced in 1949, when it already gained a wide recognition as a reference brand of body shaping undergarments. And by 1962 Chantelle announced opening the brand’s first international subsidiary in Germany. In 1982, Chantelle introduced a new style called “Les Cheris”, bringing to its devoted customers the promise of new seduction. However, the true success came with the introduction of another style, called “Vertige” in 1986

The year of 1993 is a marking point in Chantelle’s brand history being the year when Chantelle has established its business in US and became an official ambassador of the French elegance in the American intimate apparel market, the title, which it proudly holds even today. The brand met a resounding acceptance among the American women proving once again that good quality lingerie has a tremendous power of seduction not only in Europe but so all over the world. From then on, the Chantelle group has continued its expansion throughout the world, bringing being ahead of the competitions with all its creative innovations and introduction of new products, which included such well-known styles as Senso, Hedona, Chantilly and Africa.

Damaris, British Couture Lingerie Brand

September 21

Founded in 2001 by a designer Damaris Evans, the Damaris brand marched into the lingerie industry with its very fresh and unique, now signature, styles, such as Bow Knicker and cheeky bottom cleavage. The brand concept was to create high fashion, avant-garde designs in natural luxurious fabrics in order to seize upon the gap in the lingerie market that has been dominated by nylon lace and cotton Lycra for years. Spawned something of a lingerie revolution, the brand became an instant success.

The heart and soul of the brand is the St Martin’s fashion print design graduate Damaris Evans who, at the age of 25, started her own lingerie business from her kitchen with a £5,000 loan from the Prince’s Trust. Damaris’ goal was to sell her lingerie in the Europe’s top lingerie departments. When she first took her collections to Selfridges and Le Bonne Marche in Paris, both stores immediatelyadded them to their inventory, despite a retail price ranging from £125-£3,000 per piece.

The next challenge was to conquere the fashion press, that unanimously found the Damaris concept to be a hit and awarded Damaris the title of “Lingerie Queen.” Damaris styles were featured in ES, Vogue and Elle, and as a result, a waiting list for the Bow Knicker in Selfridges, spawned an instant celebrity clientele and buyers from Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Liberty and Browns Focus followed. All stores have since featured Damaris in their window displays.

Damaris’ designs and entrepreneurial skills were also acknowledged when she was awarded an Elle Style Award for ‘Young Enterprise of the Year’ for the Spring/Summer 2003 collection. Two years later, she also received the Royal seal of approval, being the only lingerie designer to be invited to the Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen for a Celebration of British Design.

It is not a secret that not only the entire lingerie market is uinfluenced by Damaris’ designs, but also the brand’s direct competitors and the high street have also given her recognition by blatantly trying to replicate the famous Bow Knicker style. While fighting off any wanna be attempts in court, the Damaris brand continues to develop its own unique signature styles that are feminine, elegant and drop-dead gorgeous.

What is Couture Lingerie?

March 14

Couture Lingerie is a very good quality pricey lingerie usually made by high end brands, labels and/or designers. Its price can be measured not only by the designer or brand name on the tag, but also by the cost of materials and labor invested in making that piece. What cannot be possibly measured is the feeling of beauty, serenity and happiness experienced from owning and wearing a beautiful and exquisite piece of couture lingerie. Another quality that separates couture lingerie from regular lingerie is that it can last for a very long time, given that you handle it with care.

There is an unspoken golden rule of trade – you get what you pay for. Most lingerie sold today is an average lingerie that is mass produced, made of cheap materials, cannot endure long wear and needs to be frequently replaced. It is true that life requires us to be practical. If we find something good enough to sleep in, or to wear underneath our everyday clothes, we  buy it.  The fact that this countour bra is going to loose its shape and that shorty is going to stretch after several washes will bother us later. For now we are happy to have saved big bucks and bought something in bulk cheap.

Wearing a good quality, Couture Lingerie is a totally different experience in that it inspires a transcendent state and sweet dreams. Being part of the private, inner world of a woman, couture lingerie can make a woman feel beautiful, confident and feminine. It is not a secret, that almost every woman lacks self-confidence to some degree. We want to be thinner, taller, richer, smarter, more happier, more famous and look sexier. Having that special piece of high quality beautiful lingerie can boost a woman’s self esteem by making her feel good in her body, love and treasure herself.
